Parents, Today is our 100th day of SCHOOL!!! Our bullfrogs will be celebrating the 100th day across the building! A huge thank you to parents, students, and families for supporting 100 days of learning! Students only have 75 more days of learning to go this school year. Let's make each and every one count! According to Absences Add Up, encouraging regular school attendance is one of the most powerful ways you can prepare your child for success—both in school and in life. When you make school attendance a priority, you help your child get better grades, develop healthy life habits, avoid dangerous behavior and have a better chance of graduating from high school. Congratulations to our students who have been recognized at our community meeting last Friday for exhibiting TOLERANCE during the month of January. Each month a teacher chooses a student who has been exhibiting our character trait of the month. February's character trait will be responsibility. Chat with your kiddos about what responsibility looks like at home and school. Students who show responsibility by following school wide expectations this week and through the month of February with ZERO referrals will be invited to our Behavior Celebration on Feb. 23rd! Please remember to send in the Comprehensive School Survey by tomorrow if completing the paper form. If you would like to complete the online version please click here: Parent Survey. Tennis registration is still open for grades k-5! Tennis will meet Wednesdays from 4-5 in the BFES gym. Click here to register: TENNIS! Also, parents look for an informational flyer from MATHNASIUM in St. Matthews that will be coming home this week! Register online for free assessment, free test prep session, or two homework help sessions for students in grades 3-5. Check it out! Students are encouraged to wear blue and orange on Friday, February 2, to stand #MarshallStrong in solidarity with Marshall County High School. Uniform pants required. Students may wear orange and blue shirts that are not uniform. Families,
January has been full of excitement with ice, snow, and now spring showers! Students have jumped back into learning this week! Students are still completing MAP testing due to the crazy weather! Please ask your children if they made growth on their Winter MAP scores. Students and teachers have been celebrating the growth they have made in the past months. Students will be testing one more time later this spring. Help students achieve their goals by reading nightly, asking about homework, and making sure they are completing weekly lessons on Dreambox Learning and Lexia! In addition to focusing on academics discuss their behavior as well. Students know also how important it is to follow school wide expectations. Students who struggle to listen, stay focused, and have difficulty staying on task tend to fall behind. When students disrupt the learning of others they often miss critical instruction time. Discuss how they can make it off the chart, earn HOP tickets, and ways to be successful in school. It is important that they hear these critical life skills from everyone! Parents also be on the look out for news regarding our Tennis Program at BFES. We are partnering with USTA for an 8 week program. Students will spend one hour per week on Wednesdays from 4 until 5 p.m. in the BFES gym learning the basics of tennis from a USTA Coach. The cost is $75 for 8 weeks. The program will begin Feb. 7th and run thru Mar. 28th. You may register at the following link : TENNIS ! If you would like to pay in cash you may print off the registration form and turn it in with the money the first practice. Parents,

Have an excellent week and stay warm! Happy New Year! We hope that our students and families have had a relaxing holiday break. Teachers and staff are ready to ring in an exciting 2018 with lots of engaging lessons and learning each day. Please make sure your students arrive at school each day! We want to increase our school-wide attendance goal to 97% this school year. So far we are around 94%. Please help us reach our goal! Students are entered in a monthly attendance drawing for each month they have perfect attendance.
MAP testing begins next week! Students will be taking their WINTER MAP test over the next couple of weeks. Students will be goal setting with their teachers. These scores assist in guiding teachers to individually plan for students. Also, parents be on the look out for report cards next week. Report cards for elementary students will be distributed on Thursday, January 11th. Please ask your children if they are earning HOP TICKETS! Students earn HOP tickets by following school-wide expectations. Our school-wide expectations are Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be a Peaceful Problem Solver.
